A city on the move, Warsaw is constantly changing in an effort to rebuild what was lost during World War Two. There’s no better example of this than the stunning Old Town Square, where pastel facades sit alongside dome-topped spires.
Starting here is the Royal Route which passes several historic buildings on its way out to Wilanów, where an ornate Royal Palace is set in a huge park that was the retreat of kings since the 17th century. Just as grandiose is the Palace of Culture and Science, Stalin’s gift to Warsaw that still manages to evoke feelings of hatred and love in equal measure. Go up to the terrace for panoramic city views.
Other cultural offerings are the Warsaw Uprising Museum, considered the best museum in Poland, and traditional bars that still serve down-to-earth food washed down with a shot of vodka - a throwback to the Communist era. Don’t expect to find a seat though – there aren’t any.
Warsaw also has a thriving club scene and more shopping centres than you could throw a stick at. Not that you’d want to, as you’ll be too busy picking up the bargains.
Just outside the city is Warsaw Airport, efficiently linked by public transport to the city’s hotels, guest houses and hostels, available on Booking.com.
Terrible service in restaurants. We were fined by the ticket inspectors for not validating our train tickets, even though we did not know the requirement to do so. The locals are very rude and disrespectful.

Warsaw is a lively city with a strong sense of day-to-day life, making it feel more suited for locals rather than a purely tourist-driven destination. The city's post-war history is evident in its architecture and atmosphere, which would be particularly interesting for those curious about life after World War II. Public transportation is highly convenient, affordable, and easy to use, making it simple to explore different areas. I visited the main tower for a great panoramic view but spent most of my time walking around and taking in the city. While winter is still a good time to visit, Warsaw would likely be even more enjoyable in spring or summer when the weather is better.

Transportation systems are very good.
At the time of our visit (in early January) entertainment was a bit scarce, but a visit to Teatr Sabat was very enjoyable. Ordinarily there are many interesting places to visit. There are innumerable places to eat, and of course the food is very good.

I did love the Barbican, and walking the city just looking at the different architectural contrasts you can find there. I spent most of my time just doing that, walking and catching the ambient. It is a lively city.
I discovered the story about the Warszava's mermaid, and it was a surprise to find more than one statue of her. If you like street art, you can enjoy it too. And the cakes are really, really good. :)
PS: you can find on google a lot of public toilets in the street, some of them for free.

Lovely place to visit at Christmas and New Year.
Lovely place to visit at Christmas and New Year. The Christmas lights were amazing. Hotels do not hold any festive dinners or dances at New Year. Fire works were good but uncontrolled on New Years Eve as no official fireworks due to the War in Ukraine. The Bars and Restaurants were full throughtout the season.
