The Penny Bun, hotel in Otley

Set in Otley, 21 km from Royal Hall Theatre, The Penny Bun offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

Comfortable and chic room with thoughtful amenities like proper coffee in the room and a communal snack bar. The restaurant was a real cut above with elevated pub classics. We had two dinners, both really good. I had a risotto covered with tasty little morsels the first night and then a perfect steak with a tasty salad with pickled mushrooms, delicious beef fat chips and truffle aioli which they were happy to substitute for the listed peppercorn sauce. My husband had a very good homemade pie and then an elaborate burger with brisket as well the patty. Puddings were a highlight - particularly the pistachio pannecotta with local rhubarb. Everything was well considered with tasty and unusual accompaniments and generous portions - we were stuffed with one main each and then a shared dessert. The manager Gary and his team were lovely and made us feel so at home, he even gave us some change as we were short on cash for the quiz night (great fun) and they kindly packed us venison sausage rolls with a little pot of sauce for a picnic. The setting was beautiful with walks through the Dales straight from the property, it felt very rural but we were still able to order an uber back to Leeds train station (we came with no car).

The location near the train station is perfect. Also the docks are a very worthwhile place for some food, drinks and socialising. Very nice spot! The food in the Hotel (Dinner & Breakfast) was of great quality in a nicely laid out space. Staff were all professional and friendly.

Our family room was spacious and comfy with all appropriate amenities. The hotel was lovely and room was very clean. The chef and kitchen staff ensured that the breakfast was topped up and fresh dinnerware available for all. I must say that I was impressed by the attention that they gave to the breakfast area. The reception have been professional and most helpful with all my queries. The location of hotel was near to Leeds Dock which had some amazing views.

Discovery Inn Thou the room was very small with no view, it was clean and the hotel was safe. With easy access to the railway station. They need to up the standard of decoration and maybe refresh the rooms regularly. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
